Embrapa Wheat
Embrapa Trigo - Passo Fundo/RS
It's mission is to coordinate and carry out research activities in all the wheat growing regions of Brazil, providing technical and scientific support for the production of the national wheat. It seeks to make wheat and other winter cereals more competitive, to increase the diversification of farm production and to develop new cultivars and production systems.
Comprising a team of 57 researchers from various areas of specialization, it participated in the creation of a number of cultivars for wheat (65), barley (6), triticale (7), rye (2) and soybean (10). It developed and promoted the biological control of the wheat aphid in Southern Brazil and also worked on soil preservation, through research, qualification and diffusion of the direct planting system.
