Water Producer Program
The Water Producer Program is an initiative by ANA, the Brazilian National Water Agency, which aims at reducing erosion and leaching in rural water sources. The program can be voluntarily adopted, and stipulates technical and financial support for soil and water conservation activities such as, for instance, the construction of terraces and infiltration basis, remodelling of country lanes, water spring recovery and protection, reforestation of permanent preservation areas and legal reserves, environmental sanitation, etc. It also establishes the payment of incentives (a type of financial compensation) to farmers who provably contribute to protecting and recovering water sources, generating benefits to the watershed and to the population.
