Embrapa Swine and Poultry is a decentralized unit of the Brazilian National Research Center which is linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. Its mission is to ‘enable research, development and innovation for the sustainability of swine and poultry production in benefit of the Brazilian Society'.
The unit is located in Concórdia, Santa Catarina state and was founded in 1975. Knowledge arisen from Embrapa Swine and Poultry's laboratories has changed the course of Brazilian swine and poultry production. The physical structure of the Unit is made up of animal health, genetics and physical-chemical analysis laboratories as well as production systems, experimental fields, meteorological station, feed factory, Management and Research building and a library specialized in swine and poultry.
For the last 40 years, Embrapa has had a crucial role in the control of diseases, improvement of animal feed, improvement of the genetic quality of animals, preservation of the environment and the development of equipment for swine and poultry production.
