Mini-curriculum

Holds a bachelor's degree in Nautical Science from the Admiral Braz de Aguiar Instruction Center (1993), a degree in Agronomy from the Federal Rural University of Amazonia (1999), a MSc in geoenvironmental sciences from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2004) and a PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2009). He has experience in geosciences, with emphasis on micrometeorology of forest and agricultural ecosystems in the Amazon biome, working mainly on the following topics: environmental biophysics of forest ecosystems (primary and secondary); environmental biophysics of agricultural ecosystems in monocultures, agroforestry systems and crop-livestock-forest integration (iLPF); mass and energy fluxes at the biosphere-atmosphere interface of forest and agricultural ecosystems using the eddy covariance technique; stable carbon isotopes as a tool to assist in the understanding of processes in forest ecosystems; CO2 efflux of soil in forest and agricultural ecosystems. Coordinates the LBA network of surface fluxes since April 2008. Member of the Scientific Steering Committees of the LBA Program, Amazon Tall Tower Observatory project and the AmeriFlux network. Since November 2017, he has served as scientific manager of the LBA Program. He is a permanent member of the postgraduate programs in Agronomy and Forest Sciences (both from UFRA), and in Environmental Sciences (from UFPA).
