Mini-curriculum
Graduation at Agronomia from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1984), master's at Agronomy from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1990) and doctorate at Agronomy from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1994). She is currently professor of the pós-graduation - UFRRJ (Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro). Has experience in Agronomy, focusing on Microbiology and Biochemist of the Soil, acting on the following subjects: diazotrophic bacteria, sugarcane, plant bacteria interaction, plant growth promotion, bacterial systematic. Veronica Massena Reis is a researcher at Embrapa Agrobiology since 1994, PhD in Agronomy - Soil Science by the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. She has been working for more than 20 years in the interaction of diazotrophic growth promoting bacteria (PGPB). Has experience in the development of microbial inoculants for application in cereals and energy crops. She develops her research in the "Laboratory of Grasses" of Embrapa Agrobiology. Also is a researcher level 1D of CNPq and Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State, a special grant granted by Faperj since its creation. Coordinates several national and international projects during her carrier. She is also the Professor of the Postgraduate Course in Agronomy - Soil Science at UFRRJ since 1995, where she coordinates the discipline of Biological Nitrogen Fixation. Due to his experience with micropropagation, she began the first works involving the inoculation of Acetobacter diazotrophicus, a bacterium discovered in 1986 and described in 1989. In her master's degree, whose thesis presents the first results of the endofitism of an associative bacterium, it changes the concept of bacteria root systems for endophytic bacteria and together with her group, proposes the new classification of beneficial microorganisms described at the time as obligatory endophytic, bringing new information about partnership relations between plants and bacteria. From 1991 to 1994 he obtained a doctorate from UFRRJ. In 1991 and 1992 she did two international fellowship (CNPq grant) in Germany at the GSF - now called Das Helmholtz Zentrum München. Defends his doctorate using the same bacterium of her thesis, Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (renamed in 1991). From July to December this year he receives a postdoctoral fellowship from CNPq and starts her work with another energy grass, Pennisetum purpurem. In this period, in partnership with Germany, describes a new species belonging to the genus Herbaspirillum (H. frisingense). In 1994 she was hired by Embrapa - Embrapa Agrobiologia. In January of 1995 she becomes a researcher CNPq and professor of the Postgraduate Course in Soil Science (UFRRJ). Since then it has worked with two crops of agricultural importance for Brazil and the world: sugarcane and corn. His work has an emphasis on Microbiology and Soil Biochemistry, working mainly on the following topics: biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), plant-microorganism interaction, microbial ecology and C4 grass nutrition.
